Are You Valuable?

Do you consider yourself a person of value? In other words, if you were to die today, would the world be a poorer place tomorrow?

As you think about your answer, can you articulate why you answered the way you did? Maybe your sense of value is tied to your appearance, performance, intelligence, and accomplishments. Perhaps it is who you know that generates a sense of value for you. Maybe it is dollars and cents, the NYSE, and the ebb and flow of world financial markets with your money in tow. Or, it may be the touch of little hands and voices crying, “Daddy” and “Mommy” that is your source of personal value.

Each of these things plays an important role in our sense of well-being.

However, although incredibly important, nothing listed above is significant enough to define your value. Even though in excess of $1,000,000,000,000 flows through the world financial markets each day, those dollars cannot make a down payment on your value. Even though you have given your life so your children will have a future, all of those hopes and dreams are not impressive enough to encompass your value.

Here’s the rub: Regardless of what money, fame, accolades, or people can provide, their best is temporal.

It is God’s conviction that your value is greater than the world’s best. And, it is His determination to communicate your value apart from the contributions of this life.

Next, the above is interesting—and correct—but can your value be quantified?
