Standing Together
The night of our sleigh ride was a balmy thirteen degrees. For this Texas boy, what to wear for this occasion was simple: everything I took. It caught me a little bit by surprise when Tony stopped on the back side of the woods to let Dolly and Queenie cool off. But I guess if God has dressed you for thirty or forty degrees below zero, thirteen is a touch warm.
They shook their harness bells every now and then, but for the most part the sisters stood side-by-side with their faces together. And that’s a common thread of friendship as well.
Friends stand together.
Given His commitment to friendship, is it any surprise that our Heavenly Father inspired Solomon to speak of Him as the “Friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24)?
Friends believe in each other, trust one another, depend on each other—which reminds me of James’ words about Abraham: “And Abraham believed God, and he was called the friend of God” (2:24).
That’s intriguing. God has friends and values friendship. They are people who believe.
“Father, I believe as well.”
