They Left Heaven

Near Bozeman by Gillham

“Myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands,” is John’s accounting of the angels standing around the throne of God. And falling on their faces, they worship Him saying, “Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever.”

Upon the birth of Jesus, Luke writes, “And suddenly there appeared a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.’”

Have you ever wondered why the angels left heaven when Christ was born?

God left heaven. He took on humanity leaving behind His throne and royal robes to be wrapped in strips of cloth and laid in a feeding trough. The angels carried their worship on the road to Bethlehem’s stable. On that first Christmas, angels by the myriads and thousands trekked from heaven to earth to worship God incarnate: Jesus, the Christ-child.

I join you and the angels this Christmas in singing the praises of our Heavenly Father. Through the ministry of our lives, we honor God and demonstrate peace to mankind. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men,” we declare.

Happy holidays, and from my house to yours, merry Christmas.
